Making SysML v2 Work:
A Practical Introduction to MagicGrid

Session contents

SysML v2, the next-generation systems modeling language, offers major improvements over SysML v1, including a formal semantic foundation, greater expressiveness, and modernized syntax. At the same time, its increased flexibility introduces new challenges related to consistency, interpretability, and methodological discipline.

MagicGrid, a modeling framework widely used with SysML v1, is currently being updated to align with SysML v2. This tutorial introduces an intermediate version of MagicGrid for SysML v2 and demonstrates how it can be used to develop high-quality system architecture models.

Through a practical example from the space domain, attendees gain insight into both the theoretical foundations and the practical application of MagicGrid with SysML v2.

Fundamental understanding of systems engineering is required; basic understanding of model-based systems engineering (MBSE) is preferable. No software installation is required, as the session is not hands-on

Participants will:

learn how to apply SysML v2 to conduct stakeholder needs analysis, following the MagicGrid framework for MBSE;
gain an understanding of the key differences between SysML v1 and v2 in this context.

The tutorial will be conducted using CATIA Magic 2026x.
